making a statement-what next?

Hi, my friend made a 'statement' to the police about her ex harassing her by phone for a v.long time-he has had previous warnings from the police. Does anyone know what happens next? They have kids together. The statement said she would go to court if needs be. Does that mean it will end in court or what and if not then what? Thanks, any advice appreciated.

Presumably the police would go around and pay a visit, advising the alleged harrasser that they have received a complaint and a statement has been made.

It would be up to the person making the complaint to make an application to court for something like a non-molestation order.

hopefully a visit from the plod would warn disuade this person?

I think, once a statement is made the police will go to the person involved and either speak to them to get more info or arrest them and take a statement from them. This depends on how they view the severity of the situation (if previous warnings have been ignored they might arrest)
Once statements are taken from both sides it is all sent to the crown prosecution service...this is the painful bit....who decide if it is in public interest to spend public money on bringing the matter to court.
If it is brought to court the person has to attend court and submit their plea. If guilty you don't need to go and the case is adjourned when a date is set for the judge to pass a sentance. If they plead not guilty then a date is set and you would need to give evidence.
This is all my understanding of the process...someone with more knowledge might be able to help you further?!

It would depend if your friend wants to press charges or not - does she?
