We took ss to Florida at Easter and he loved it, now wants to move to USA!! (he's 6 bless) Dh and I had to persuade his Mum and partner to let us, but it all went without a hitch and ss had the time of his life and has had his horizions expanded.
I would say so long as XP is a responsible Dad, is there any reason why not to let them go, apart from the fact that you obviously would want to take them yourself, as all will have a fab time over there. Like I say I don't know your history, but it is the holiday of a lifetime doing the Disney etc thing, so as you say 'give it serious thought'.

But I thought he was dirt poor?? Or is that just the line he spins the CSA?

rickman if he struggles to look after them at his own house, I don't think he should take them to Florida.

Aren't they still quite young ie Infants school age and below. Sounds like a tiring and over exciting trip for them to make without their mum and as he says can't really afford it - theme parks, car hire etc aren't that cheap. Is the opportunity likely to come up again in the future - I'm sure they could wait a few more years and probably enjoy it more.

I can understand your worries as to how he would cope generally and in an emergency. Could you suggest that he holds fire for at least another year on such extravagances and proves he can manage them well in the meantime.

I'd say no at the moment, because of the kids being so young. Why not suggest that he puts the money he would have spent on flights into a holiday account and continue saving, so that in five years time when they're all old enough to go, and he's financially better able to manage it, then he'll have the money there to take them.

By which time of course, he'll probably have lost interest.

There are lots of hidden costs to florida, and not only is there food, entry to theme parks, travel the little ones will also want things from the gift shops too which is really all part of the experience...

If his heart is really set on taking them away why not to disney in Paris for 4 day break? No jet lag, cheaper in long run and not so far for little ones to travel.

I dont know your situation but i do undestand that it is hard letteing xp have them.. On the flip side (and i stress i dont know your situation) they might really enjoy it and re-inforce good bond with their dad.

Agree with Arwen. I have just come back from a fortnight over there. Accommodation is actually quite cheap (you can get a house sleeping 8 people for £400 a week out of high season). Flights and car hire for 3 will be around £2K, theme park tickets around £500 and obviously spending money will bring the cost up to £3K. Not cheap. I think the kids need to be 4/5 to begin to enjoy the trip. I can really sympathise with you on this one, I hate letting my kids go off with their father but they need to see him. Rather than be negative why not say (teeth gritted) that it sounds like a great idea in a few years time but you feel kids are a litle bit young at present. It would be great if you took them for a week or so in the UK or Europe etc etc.
