A big fat zilch. He's a lazy bum (always has been) and has a very low income, god knows how he survives (does painting & decorating when the mood takes him). Very hands-on dad though, has DD 3 nights a week. He's now having another child with his GF and she's got no money either, totally insane.

I'm OK financially but far from loaded and he seems to expect me to buy ALL her clothes and stuff. I do get the child benefit and tax credits (about £100 a month in total) but I still think this is a tad unfair - any opinions please?

My x puts £1 a week into my account. It's an old UK account I never use now that I'm in Ireland. THat one pound a month keeps the account active, which means I'm charged £2 a month bank charges.

And don't tell me to ring the bank. It's impossible from Ireland, and I don't know any of my passwords or pin codes and the free numbers aren't free from here, and etc etc etc, I've tried to sort it, honestly!

Yes he is.

At one point, last August, I wrote to him to ask him for money. We are struggling, but we do manage, just. He responded with a solicitor's letter threatening to take me to court to have the children returned to the UK.

It didn' mention money but I got the message you know. I had to go to my solicitor and spend £180 to get his advice. He advised me that unfortunately, because I did return to Ireland with the children (born in the UK) that I shouldn't rock the boat by persuing money, either legally or even just verbally.

So I left it. But I spent 180 I didn't have on a solicitor and he must have spent a similar amount on a solicitor. More money than he's ever given us.

He does come and visit them too, so it's not like he's turned his back completely. He flies over about once a month. He earns 90k a year, lovely house worth half a mil and a car worht 40k. He told my Dad that he's not giving us any money because by leaving I implicity undertook to support the children, and besides, his money is 'all tied up'.

He didn't come to see the children in January because he was skiing.

I hardly even care any more. It used to EAT ME UP INSIDE literally, the anger was so palpaple I was almost choking on it, but now I feel, he has made himself an UTTER inconsequence in our lives. Which I now realise is for the best as he was extremely controlling.

Sorry, I just realised I said £1 a week, he actually gives me £1 a month!!!!

Mind you, that's a good thing, my solicitor said if we ever end up in court, the fact that he's given me £1 a month for nearly two years will NOT reflect well on him given his financial status.

dd1's dad has somehow managed to earn below the threshold for maintenance for the last 15 years.

I get NOTHING for her and never have done.

He gave me £100 when she was tiny and said that if I didn't give his name to the CSA I could have that every month. I didn't feel much like telling the CSA that my husband wasn't the father of my child just to save him being obliged to contribute to her welfare so I admitted that he was in fact her father, conceived within wedlock and much wanted (as it happens)

That was the last I saw of him and his money!

I know for a fact that he used to earn thousands a week and managed to successfully hide it.

I don't even know if he's still alive as have had no contact with any of his family for the last ten years.

I get nothing - although should be getting about £120 a month (well actuall as of this month it's £5 as he's been sacked - under very spurious reasons which he's appealing).

However, under mutual agreement he's not currently paying me anything (it's long and complicated to explain so I'm not going to try - except to say that I'm happy with the situation as it currently is).

In four years, we have had about £25 - this was over three months last year when the CSA managed to get £1.67 a week out of him!

CSA are a fucking joke, ex has three kids by three women and none of them get anything. Everytime one of the CSA cases gets altered or any reason, the other two get 'put on hold' indefinitely. Every time he changes beneits, or signs off for a few weeks to avoid having to get a job, they stop all the claims without telling anyone.

My ex has not paid anything in eleven years. They said they counldn't find him and yet my brother works for a tracing agency and sent me his file in ten minutes.
Its ridiculous and I was told I could take the csa to court for imcompetency. Its just more hassle though. I phone them monthly and the last state of play is that the baliffs are involved. Not holding my breath though.
