It doesn't have to be wonderfully friendly, just a phone call/brief letter "dd would love to see you, how would you feel about be dropping her off and coming to collect her". You don't have to go in or have anything else to do with them apart from arrange visits? Do they live locally?

Hopefully if you did they would really appreciate it especially now they realise what their son is like. If your dd loves them & enjoys seeing them do it for her sake.
