Been offered a job but.........

I was offered a job today but it is for 4 hours a day which in itself is great but i am planning to move in with my partner and that is where things will get complicated i have worked it out and i am better off by £1 and i will be getting paid £5.49 an hour but will have to pay £2.75 an hour for a childminder also i have debts to pay from my past so i dont know if i should take it or not.

have you looked into tax credits/help with childcare you may be entitled to?

i spoke to my lone parent advisor who said i could claim working tax credit.i really think i need this job to get me back in to the real work because i am fed up with being at home. the job is a cleaning a school which i have never done but it is the only job available close to where my boyfrind lives which is 200 miles from where i live. i just feel is it really worth it because most of my money will go on child care then what is left is for debts

have you looked into whether you are entitled to get help with childcare as well? i ask as I have a friend who is a single parent, and I think she gets 70% of her childcare back

i wonder tho whether cleaning a school is 1)what you want to do and 2)whether it will be sociable enough for you to feel back in the real world- as I imagine it would be after the end of the school day, and not sure you would see many people

thing with the debts is, unless it's certain types of student loans, it's best to pay them off more quickly, as I'ld have thought they would get bigger the longer you leave them (because of interest)

hi clare1980, ive been back to work for 2 months now, im changing my job in a couple of weeks but i find it hasnt made that much difference money wise except maybe a little, and i mean a little extra a month, but it has made such a difference to me and dd. its nice to with adults again and dd loves being around other children. does wonders to your confidence and self-esteem etc.

oh i just saw that its cleaning at a school. probably not so good for socialising like MTS said. maybe try sending a CV or something to places near you, like offices and that. I did that when I tried to get back into work.

tammybear dd goes to the local pre-school on a pay as you go basis but this is all the time so it is costing me and dp £50 a week she loves going to pre-school and i was hoping to chat to some of the mums but everyone seems to keep to themselves

you are paying £2.75 to a childminder, that is very reasonable imho

am sorry but how can you get away with paying the childminder £2.75 an hour??????

the child minders are all registered and charge about the same i got the info from the childrens info service for devon

lavenderr the childminder looks after more than one child at a time, so earns more than 2.75 an hour in total.

clare1980, I suspect you will be entitled to quite a lot of tax credits. I work 20 hours a week a make a bit more than you will and get £800 a month in credits.
