I REALLY need a boyfriend...

I have just trapped the biggest spider ever under a pyrex bowl. It is sitting there looking at me and plotting its escape. I am actually terrified, need a brave man to come and take it away. ds offered to help but I'm not sure I trust him to stop it getting away.

my ds is spiderman in this house. Let him have a go! you can leave room first

He's in bed now. He's only 4, I'm sure he would just let in run away and hide somewhere. How long do you think it can survive with no air?

Don't need a man for spiders, just a hoover with a very long hose on it! Preferably a dyson, then you can watch its legs being torn off of it as it spins around!

Have you got any fly spray? I find that works quite well.

My hoover doesn't have a hose. I have put my wellies so if it escapes while I'm looking the other way it wont be able to get my feet. It is seriously massive. Almost mouse sized.

i am also petrified of spiders and because i scream very loudly and run like mad whenever one takes me by surprise i have also made my dd scared of them!! luckily though my son believes he is spiderman and if the spider isnt too big he will happily stand on it lol !! however sometimes the spider is too big for him to attempt anthing and so i usually spray them with furniture polish, they cant move far and then drop a shoe on it!!

Ive just been showing DSD insects on her window at bedtime and showing her how beautiful they are and that they have babies to look after too. DP has always taught DSD that spiders are our friends. He has taught her to like slugs and snails too.
In short if by example you teach your kids to be fearful of xyz whatever they will.
When I had anxiety problems I met people with serious arachnophobia. I know its not a joke. Those people worked through their fear, I would advise that you do that too.
IMO/E you need to work at your fear and change your perspective.

I'm fine with insects, and flying things and all kinds of creepy crawlies. I have even got over my fear of wasps so I don't pass it on to ds. But all those long legs! and the weird little body. and the scuttling around so quickly. shiver.

what you need to go is get a huge bit of paper and slowly put it under the bowl...then once MR Creepy is on the paper slide a hard something(lego board maybe?) under that/ Then lift the whole lot up as one...
..then put it out the front door, and kick the pyrex bowl a bit/or lift up and run screaming

I did that once, threw the spider in the garden ran back in the house and watched it run back towards the house! I don't think it made it in though as I never saw it again. (I think I hurt it's feelings by locking the back door!)

I can't do it! I can't find anything sturdy enough to slide under the paper, the bowl is too big. I will just leave it until ds is old enough to sort it out.

thin oven tray? lego board? I used a playmobil wall!

It's ok, my parents are coming round in the morning to take ds to see thomas the tank engine. They can deal with it! I'm a big chicken.

Have you got a scrabble board or any board game, that will do.

Or squash a cereal packet and use that.

Or a school/college type folder

anything really.

Make sure you take it well away from the house. Enlist ds to open doors for you as you go. Nothing worse than dropping the blardy article.

Oh, huge sympathies beansmum. I HATE big spiddies, they give me the heebie jeebies.

I do have a boyfreind but he's not much use on that score...he hates them more than me .

beansmum, aren't you worried that you'll come down in the morning and the bowl will have moved .

I sat on the loo last night and looked at the bath next to me and there was this giant spider sitting on my daughter's bath towel just looking at me had to take a pic of it, lol, I then put a a bath mat next to it for it to crawl out and was happily sitting watching tv and it walked across the living room carpet and stopped and looked at me again

My dad put it out this morning. It was under the bowl in my bedroom all night, sooooooo glad I didn't wake up to find it gone!
