Would anyone be interested in a support thread for young (ish) single Mums?

I see quite a few of us dotted around MN but haven't noticed us getting together. I'm sure we lend one another a supportive ear from time to time...

So anyway - I'm squiggly, DD is nearly 8 months, I'm 23 and very happy!

If we're around I'd really like to go Ewe, but had the same worries...

I think everyone should stay who has posted!

I'm glad I can count! But 27 is not old ffs!!

Great idea this. I've often thought a young parent section would be nice.

I may be young but certainly don't feel it; stress is far too ageing

Im 22 and mum to 3yr old DS by the way.

Nice to meet you! I don't feel young either. In fact this evening I feel distinctly haggard!

hi im 24 my ds is almost 5 and my dd is 3 and a half! i like being a single mum more and more with every day that goes by!

Friskyfluff · 12/09/2008 19:50

Hi all.

I like being a single mum as well emz, probably because there is no conflicting parenting styles and i get to do everything my way

Anyone else here find it hard at times to switch between being the grown-up responsible mum, and the carefree wild ways that are part of being young?....hmm, does that make sense?

Mum2OliverJames · 12/09/2008 20:05

Hi, i just became a single mum on friday
Im 22 and have an 8 month DS

emz83 · 12/09/2008 20:53

hi friskyfluff, i totally agree i like being my own boss and i can bring my kids up the way i want to! im not sure i know what you mean with the switching thing though. ive had a lot of good times with and without the kids since i split up with xp. i have been lucky in the way that i have 3 brothers who are around a lot more now that ex has vanished and they are willing to babysit and help me to get out on my own. the only problem is the sense of guilt i feel leaving them sumtimes and the fact that i annoy whoever is babysitting by leaving notes and ringing several times!!

hi mum2oliverjames, sorry to hear that but keep your chin up it does get better!!

kyrasmummy · 12/09/2008 21:22

I'm 23 and i have a dd who's 4 and a ds who's almost 3. I love being a single mum

Janos · 12/09/2008 21:30

Heya everyone.

Mum2OliverJames, I saw your thread in Relationships. How are you and your DS doing?

Well done on the weight loss btw..don't mean to be flip but...every cloud has a silver lining

The reason I admire all you young mums so much is because wehn I was your age I was completely clueles..I know that I was simply not mature enough to be a mum. Sometimes I even wonder now!

Janos · 12/09/2008 21:30

Oh and yes anyone under 30..you are NOT old. No way!

trumpetgirl · 12/09/2008 21:37

Hi everyone
I'm 24 and dd is 5 and a half and a bit!
The only thing that annoys me about being a single parent is when you realise that you have ran out of coffee/milk/bread... and dd is ill/has just out of the bath/has just gone to bed... and there is noone to go to the shop for you. You then have 2 options:

  1. Live without it
  2. Get dd ready and go to the shop. However, by the time you have achieved 2), the shop has almost certainly closed, and so 1) is the inevitable outcome!
Janos · 12/09/2008 21:40

trumpetgirl that bugs me too. Not being able to just nip to the shops for essentials.

We always run out of milk...DS's favourite drink (he's nearly 4).

Janos - It annoys me even more that you can phone up at a moments notice to get crap like pizza and general take-aways, but there's noone to phone for a pint of milk!

Janos · 12/09/2008 22:05

Of course you're welcome masalachameleon (great name btw).

You're dead right trumpetgirl.Although it would be a good excuse to ring for pizza and say..'oh, could you pop a pint of milk in there as well, please? Ta...'

I'm mean if your DC really needs milk..

Janos · 12/09/2008 22:06

D'oh I mean..not I'm mean!

trumpetgirl · 12/09/2008 22:08

Ok, seriously, does that work? Can I make pizza delivery men do my shopping for me???

Dunno trumpetgirl but it's got to be worth a try! And it's an excuse to get pizza...

Janos · 12/09/2008 22:13

Are you getting how much I like pizza ? ;)

trumpetgirl · 12/09/2008 22:14

Like your logic. Will give it a go next time

Janos · 12/09/2008 22:15

Oh and welcome back masalachameleon !

All these mistakes typing...it's getting past my bedtime.
