has anyone been on a holiday alone with my kids?

looking to go on holiday next year with my two children aged who will be 7 and 1 then?. i want to go abroad and make it as special as i can for my children, this will be there first holiday. i am going on my own with them, has anyone done this, as dont know what to expect will i spend 2 weeks miserable seeing loved up couples and happy families?
please let me know your experiences?

I took my 2, aged 4 and 6 to Malta when i was on my own. Went to a smaller place so not loads couples , etc.

tbh, kids had such a fab time, didn't even notice others.

I had a budget of £40 to spend for the week aswell, and this was only 6 yrs ago.

Yes went with DS (aged 2.8) this summer for a week. We were really lucky - hotel was a small, family owned place and the staff were lovely. Met another lone parent with kids. Went really well. I chose this instead of a bigger place with a 'kids club' as thought that would have too many couples and happy families and DS was too young for kids clubs anyway - but your 7 yr old might enjoy it.
Actually all the couples that I did see around the pool were arguing/looking miserable so I felt fine about being on my own! DS had the time of his life.

Would also say that Spanish people (and probably Italians/Portuguese etc) are fantastic with kids which helps a lot. DS was made welcome everywhere we went and it's very acceptable for kids to be up late and racing around/being loud in resturants.

hi, went to majorca with my two this year aged 7 and 2. It was fine-they and me loved every bit of it and it was no problem at all. i was really worried before i went but once ive saved up again i will do it all over again and again-the best holiday i have ever had!! everyone was lovely and it was one of the best things i have ever done [and them!!]. Go for it, it's an adventure you can be proud of!!

by the way... met some very loved up couples and some not so loved up couples...it dosn't matter!! what matters is that you and the children are having a fab time!! i was so tired after watching them play in the pool everyday that evenings i just crashed out with them early every night after a story and for some nights they came out with me...it was bliss and no moaning about anything !

I going to be taking my special needs son for a 3 day break to gret yarmouth alone tommorrow. wish me luck i will tell you if its a good idea when we return on monday.

I took my three away last year on my own and have just returned from a holiday with another single mum I know.

I loved being on my own with the kids it was a unique experience. It didnt bother me that everyone else seemed to be in a family and we had a fab time.

i went to lanzarote with my three for 2 weeks i had a mate and her DD come out with us for first week, the second week was ok it was like a challenge for me but we did ok, have now booked to take my three to menorca in october, the things i found hard were sitting on my own in the evening once the kids were in bed and seeing other couples out with their kids and feeling sad that my kids no longer have that.

thanks everyone, i will go and get some brouchers today, i have looked on the net but when you put 1 adult on not many really come up unless i looking at wrong ones

I just came back from here on Thursday on my own with my dcs aged 5 and 6. It was fantastic! best holkiday in years! (Ex left on mothers day this year so first one just the 3 of us). It was such an easy site to go to - everything was there for you 4 poos and a short (5mins max) walk to a gorgeous gently shelving beach. As it's camping you can spend as much or as little as you like. There is a supermarket on site and LOADS for the kids to do. Ther's a bust stop right outside hte campsite with direct buses to the aiprort (marco Polo), Venice, Lido de Jesolo or Caorle. You can also walk into a lovely wee town - 5 mins from site. With camping you pay for 2 adults but kids go free - my holiday cost £1000 for 2 weeks in school hols but you can get it cheaper than that - that was for a 2 bedroom mobile home (sleeps 6). I paid with Tesco vouchers so had to pay full price with no iscounts. Would throughly recommend it. I also wasn't the only single mum there. Rep said there had been quite a few single mums out all summer as it's such an easy site to do on your own. Wanna go back right now!!!!

I have just come back from scotland with my 19mo.I stayed with my mum (she had rented a static caravan), but did the flights alone!
the flight home was probably as bad as it can get - both of us tired, flight delayed, long wait for the transfer bus, accident on the road on the way home meaning we were stuck in traffic - but I coped. bloody hard tho...
my top airport tip is - introduce your kids to other kids. I am sure ALL parents are as stressed as you, and the kids entertain each other and givw you a break.

OOO er Tinkerbel!!!!! Not v good at links!! Too much 1 euro wine on holiday!!!! I've just spent last couple hours researching other tesco voucher options - i.e. canvas life as I don't do Rory the Tiger et al from Siblu!!! Anyway upshot is the kids and I are gonna go back!!! prob 17th Aug next year!!! Can't wait! That's a good recommendation!
