Pathetic me, too afraid to take DD on weekend trip alone.

I'm so pathetic, Bank holiday is coming up and I dont want to be sitting here dreaming of ex having fun with new wife to be. But on the otherhand too frightened to take dd away for a weekend trip as never gone alone before. Anyone done this sort of thing. Maybe not a good time as all families will be together. Should I stay in bed and cry. Thats what I feel like doing.

Thanks. Its hard DD already thinks I'm weak so if this goes wrong, she is going to think even worse of me.

Sorry MABS, didnt know you posted message. Staying at Jurys Inn, didn't know where else to book. Expensive but credit card did the business as a one off.

well done for booking it.

Rather than thinking 'nothing will go wrong', I reckon it's better to think 'even if something goes wrong, it won't matter and I will cope with it. It's not the end of the world'.

The more you do it, the better you'll get it at and just think how pleased you'll be with yourself once you've done it!

mylittlepudding · 22/08/2008 18:23

Well done you!

Was going to say, start with day trips.

DD and I were always alone anyway. But a sudden change must make it WAY harder than that. I hope you have a really, really great time. And shout if you want a weekend-away-buddy! I am sure you will find several!

mylittlepudding · 22/08/2008 18:27

Also wanted to say - throwing monay at it - a la credit card - to start with is fine. There's plenty of time for lots of research, etc. Providing it's not going to bankrupt you, sometimes throwing money at things is really, actually, ok.

sagacious · 22/08/2008 18:30

The one by the station?
Its great.
10 min walk to everywhere

Kids breakfast for free (basic canteen style fare but ok)
Bar is good (straws for kids and ds watched the footy on sky sports)

Short walk to lanes (huge
pizza express near museum is good)

Tootsies has a good child menu (and the superfood sald is gorgeous) and the waitresses are so perky and bloody happy they MUST be on something !

You WILL have a fab time !

MABS · 22/08/2008 18:34

Yep it is by the station, v central so v good choice. Totally agree with Sagacious's suggestions, also Carluccio is good for kids too.

MUMDONEGOOD · 22/08/2008 18:37

No more credit card after this. Will try out Tootsies. Hoping to have a great time. DD needs it. Will let you all know how it went. If going badly may even hear from me whilst there. Its great to have this support. Thanks.

Well done for booking, MDG.
You'll both have a fab time.
Post when you get back and let us know about all the fun you've had.

MABS · 22/08/2008 18:55

I live nearby Mumdonegood, you will have a graet time. Selife centre by the pier is good for kids, as is the open top bus that runs from near pier also. Enjoy!

bearandbunny · 22/08/2008 22:50

Well done! You will have a great time, amd I am sure that getting away will do both of you the world of good,

I sometimes break into a cold sweat just taking my two DDs to Tesco, so I can completley understand your fears. But just focus on having a nice time - you CAN cope with whatever lttle hiccups may arie. You will feel so stong when you have done this.

Do let us know how you get on. Good luck, and have a wonderful time.

vixma · 22/08/2008 23:14

Yeah, I have taken my son alone to Spain, Portugal, France (Paris), Italy, Rotterdam etc in Europe so far. If the funds were bigger, we would go outside... .further if I could. He and I love it. Its great fun! Coach company Leger is great as you are with other Brits, plane companies etc, Thompsons, Going Places etc. As long as you are going together and somwhere that is for families you should be okay. We loved it and my son learned so much about culture.

gillybean2 · 23/08/2008 11:24

Hope you're having a good time. I'm sure you'll let us know how it went when you get back. Looks like the weather will be kind to you so there's the first positive thing!

MUMDONEGOOD · 25/08/2008 16:31

Hi everyone, we are back. Hotel was really nice, but felt a bit down. Lots of couples etc. due to bank holiday. DD really enjoyed herself on beach which is the main thing. Having dinner in hotel was horrible, we were the only ones on our own. Weather wasn't bad. Ex's mother phoned yesterday, she wants to see DD on Thursday. Felt even worse then.
Don't know what to say to her but need her help I think, don't feel strong enough to cope with DD on my own and my family don't think I can do anything anyway which makes me feel worse. Should we be in contact with ex's family. I keep wanting to ask about him.
