Depends on your rent - they won't pay a mortgage.

YOu should get IS at £60 pw
Child tax credit @ £40 pw (£55 ish until j is 1)
Child benefit @ £18 pw

Total of £118 per week.

They will probably pay your rent and council tax. Depends on how expensive your accomodation is.

YOu would be better off with a job if you can get one though.

Normally Child Tax Credit is paid at £60 per week I think.

If you make an appointment with a Lone Parent Advisor at your local Job Centre then they can do a "Better Off" calculation that will show you what you'll get financially if you go back to work.

Depending on how many hours you plan to work and how much you'll be paid, it's not always financially worth-while in going back to work. If you work less than sixteen hours, you won't get Working Tax Credit and you could only be marginally better off even though you're working quite a few hours.

Theyve recently changed the way they do there ousing benefit now if u needed this,
They now have set prices for how much they would be willing to pay depending on how many rooms its got. O got a form from my local benefit office about it.
The rent now gets paid to u instead of straight to the landlord if you are new to the housing thing.
