Child free weekends

How do parents not like it when their kids are away for the weekends? Or do you just have very well behaved kids? My kids have really wound me up this weekend they’ve been an absolute nightmare, they’ve been so horrible all weekend fighting and arguing and have just ruined my weekend. I keep thinking how much better/ happier I would be if I had free weekends to myself but I read so many posts from women saying they hate when their kids are away and cry because they are so lonely, am I awful for thinking how much I’d love to have someone to wave them off to for the weekends?

You are not awful for wanting/needing a break.
Mine are older now, but when they were younger it just felt relentless and crushing at times. It’s a combination of being a lone parent and EVERYTHING to do with the home being on you, and not getting a moment to let your shoulders drop because someone else has taken over responsibility for your children.
I think some single parents find it hard when their children spend time with their other parent if the split was difficult, if they have concerns about their children’s welfare and new partners and children are involved.
My youngest hasn’t seen his father for many years so I didn’t have those issues (I did when we first split). Even though he’s mid teens now I do love when he’s out overnight. I can turn off completely.

Yeh I love it, peace and quiet. I love my kids and they are very sweet but they are such hard work.
