What do other single mums do on their birthdays? Aimed at those that don't have anyone else to celebrate with (other than the kids) I thought it might be nice to take the kids away to the coast as it's October half term but then I thought it might be too cold for the beach and it would get dark early, being out of season most things would be shut. So not sure that would still be worth it? What do people think honestly? Don't just say it's fine if you wouldn't personally as I asked on another group and someone told me it was a good idea then a few weeks later they posted about taking their kids away in oct half term and said it too cold to take them to the coast 😂 I don't want to waste money if it would be rubbish.

I would book a hotel in a city in the Uk for a night and go exploring with the kids for a weekend. If your thinking of the north coast it would be freezing in october!

Was thinking Kent as we are in London

I love the coast in winter. Just think about things you could do if it's cold and wet. Unless it's a tiny town, there will probably things like bowling, cinema etc around too.

Not much around locally in the place I was thinking but could travel to somewhere I guess

I would go for it. Not such thing as bad weather. Just wrong clothes. It’s important we show our children we celebrate us. So they will hopefully continue to celebrate our life events into their adulthood. I’m sure that made sense in my head.

If book a theme park hotel for the night, peppa pig world / paultons is fab and only the new forest.

It's me that doesn't enjoy the cold so I won't want to go and splash around in the beach in the rain 😂 maybe I should rethink this 🫣

How does it work for theme parks if the weather is bad? We don't go often, I guess a lot of the rides would be closed?

They only close if the weather is really bad, they have a zoo etc and some indoor bits too.

SummerNightsDream · 04/09/2025 13:29

Thanks I will look into it that sounds like a good option!

I wouldn't go. How old are the kids? For my birthday, I'd love a trip to the zoo and stay over night or for 2 days somewhere where there are things to do.

SummerNightsDream · 04/09/2025 13:43

Im thinking to give it a miss, the hotel is so cheap that’s what was tempting me as it is significantly cheaper than it was in the summer when I looked (100 a night cheaper 😩) but for obvious reasons. Kids are between 8-14

Me and my LO went to the coast last October. We had the best time- we wrapped up on the beach and went welly splashing through the waves. Then we had a sandcastle competition and drank hot chocolate on the beach. We both loved it- I think the beach in autumn/winter has something magical about it.

SummerNightsDream · 07/09/2025 23:23

Thanks I decided against it as we went to the beach yesterday (was forecast to be nicer than it actually was) and it just wasn’t enjoyable cold, windy, sand blowing in our faces, none of them wanted to go in the water, dread to think how it would be in October so that was the deciding factor.
