could your parents come for the operation and then friends help out with the school run while you are convalescing?
or could you afford a childminder temporaily?

When I was with the Health Visitors they arranged for this type of care for a family. The mum was having op and the children recieved some short term care ( not fostering at all)- this was in Bham though.
Im sure your local trust would have info- this is not uncommon YG. x

Yorkiegirl, being the lovely person you are, I am sure that you would have plenty of lovely volunteers (say neighbours, co workers, school friends, other mumsneters, etc) around to help you out.

I'm a bit far though, and also a lone parent now but I'm sure someone will materialise to help you out.

I live in East Yorks.Recently dp was hospitalised for ages and I had 2 young dcs(1 sn) to care for.The health visitor arranged a weekly visit from a voluntary agency to help with chores/ferrying about/shopping/playing with dcs (Red cross home from hospitals service),it was weekly but I wonder if something is available along similar lines where you are that could act as a help re getting kids to school..All the volunteers were CRB checked etc,a lot were retired doctors/SW etc.Maybe would be worth contacting your HV.

If your girls are over 5 YG then ask to see the school nurse- they can access the same support networks as HV's

How about asking their father to look after them?

Yorkiegirl there is help. Contact social services. I had my symphsis pubis fused in Jan and my GP asked if I needed help but fortunately DH is here and my boys are 11 and 13 now so can do most things for themselves.
Hope all goes well for you.

One very useful thing I learned when working in a hospital is that the school summer holidays are a very quiet time indeed for surgeons. When you next see your surgeon ask if there is any possibility of being scheduled in for this time.

At least then you wouldn't have the school run to deal with.
