Single parent hacks?

What are you single parent hacks? Say how old your DC are :)

I’ll go first. 12 month old DC.

Hacks:

  1. Slow cooker: chop veggies whenever I can during day/night and use the slow cooker overnight.
  2. Keep reserves/buy pre-chopped frozen veggies for the freezer.
  3. Robot vacuum cleaner.
  4. Highchair in the bathroom and musical toy for DC so I can (try!) and shower in the mornings.
  5. Vacuum with DC in a sling.
  6. Make couscous instead of pasta/rice - I can do it one handed and less danger of splashing DC with boiling water.

Baked beans on wholemeal toast is fine for a meal.(Primary age)

Carry kid downstairs in a child back pack carrier that can stand up on it's own while you put them in/out of pushchair. Allows you to carry pushchair downstairs with one hand. Pick a light weight pushchair. (Baby/toddler)
(I once carried both kids, and a massive rucksack of pears from mum's tree up two flights of stairs when back quite late.

However tired I am at night, I always make sure the lunches are done for the next day and I've put a full set of clothes out ready for everyone. It makes the mornings run so much smoother.

Keep an emergency overnight bag for me and dc in car with enough of everything for 48 hours in case of need for unexpected stay somewhere (eg hospital in emergency)

Ah yes I have a hospital bag in the car!
