So I got offered a flat but when I went to go do the paper work they said I won’t be able to afford it after looking at my expenses ! But my expenses are more because I’m living in a hotel people eat my food so I don’t buy fresh foods I just eat take away I only ever make food for my toddler. And also I have no access to a washing machine etc so I’m paying for that too and bus fare going back and fourth to my sons nursery. Surely the housing association people should consider this ? They said they will make a decision and let me know. Feeling so shit. Wish I had just lied and said I have no expenses now. I was only being honest about my situation if I had a stable home they would see that my spendings etc would change ! Are they allowed to do this ?

also I’d like to add… the housing officer said “Dw I’ll speak to my manager I’ve moved some costs around besides we have given people homes who have £10 in their bank accounts and you have savings so you should be okay I’ll sort it out should let you know by next week” this is my first time doing all this. Any advice ?

I feel like if you explain your situation then it should be reasonable? Can you write down a mock up of what you’re future expenses will likely be once you move in?

Of course take away and such will send your food bill through the roof, that’s perfectly understandable.

No one ever asked me what I had in my bank or what m expenses were? This was in 2023

I don't understand this.
Surely a council flat is the cheapest accommodation available?
So if you can't afford a council home, you can't afford any home? Is that what they're suggesting, that you have no home because nothing at all is affordable?
