Bedtimes for 8-14 years old. Solo mum exhaustion

I'm absolutely exhausted.

I have insomnia most nights also, but what are the bedtimes you have for these ages? Especially through summer holiday!!!

I am absolutely fatigued. (There's many other reasons why for this too - personal and complex) but just wondering what times yours go to sleep?

My 8 and 10 year olds are normally in bed by 8 asleep by 8.30 in the holidays but they are always awake by 6.30am!
I know lots of their friends go to bed later but they also sleep in later normally…

i was raised by a single mum who needed her own space in the evenings so after the age of 11 I had to hang out in my room after 8.30 although I could do what I wanted and didn’t have to go to sleep. that seemed fairer than enforcing a really early bedtime at that age. I had a phone in my room and PC.

Sorry, should have added that my 11 and 14 year olds go bed about 10pm in the holidays if nothing is happening and later if something is happening that goes on late.

DD 12 up to bed at 930-10pm and asleep about 30 mins later

We are back to school now. We were more relaxed during the holidays.

It would not be unreasonable for u to have a cur off point fir them to disappear and u have me time. Then cut off point where u remove devices.

14 yo at the moment is after 11 (I have a 16yo and they share a room so this just happens) but usually in school year is between 9 or 10. 9 yo is before 9 always as he gets tired easily and up at 7. It’s all a minefield, I miss early nights!!!

12 year old DD has been going up about 9.45/10 in the holidays. I love her dearly but I do miss the 7pm bedtimes when she was younger so I could get my own space in the Evening!!

My 14yo DS has to go in his room at 10pm in term time and (in theory) 11pm in the holidays. Can't say he actually goes to sleep then as he hasn't ever slept well since the day he was born.

However, we no longer wait up for him. DH and I go up to read at about 9pm. I think you could have the 8yo in bed for 8pm and leave the 14yo to it with instructions about when they must be upstairs by.

CrumpetsandJammmm · 20/08/2024 15:57

Nearly 8yo is in bed reading to himself by 8 at the latest and lights out about half past. 12yo goes up to bed somewhere between 8.30-9 and then reads for an hour. Obviously at that age some nights we watch a film or something till 10 but if we want peace and quiet we start nagging then to go upstairs around half right.
