Child maintenance

My ds has now finished his 2nd year of 6th form
It is unlikely he will continue with education in September.
So even though his course has now ended I have been informed that I will receive child benefit until the beginning of September ie the new school year
Does anyone know if this also applies to child maintenance payments
my ex has already stopped them and I can’t find info on this particular question anywhere

The CMS site makes no mention of this but I was told by their live chat that it is tied to the payment of child benefit which runs until September.
Not clear how they work it if resident parent doesn't claim child benefit though 🤷🏼‍♀️
