Has anyone else been sent a giro instead of IS going into the bank this week?

And was it a Giro for one week, or a Giro for two weeks?

Yes but only because I rang them and asked where my IS was.

They said they had no idea why it hadn't gone in, and would send me a giro as it was quicker.

That was a week ago it should have gone in though.

Sorry it was the usual two week amount.

How odd Wonder what's going on!

TheAntiFlounce · 17/03/2008 16:19

I usualyl get mine weekly, so I don't know why they would give me two weeks - it's odd!

If it was due on a bank holiday - like Easter Monday you would get it early.

gillybean2 · 19/03/2008 07:40

They'd still pay it via bank transfer than Giro though. I've had mine early when it clashes with bank hols at new year/xmas time.

I'd phone them and find out what's going on. It's far too easy for a chq to go missing in the post...

I got the giro

No rational explanation about why though - it's not band holilday on the day it was due (hmm)

I have to watch my account like a hawk. It quite often doesn't go in, and I ring them and they say they are sending a giro, but I often think it is my ringing that prompts the giro!

I've been getting my CSA as a giro for months and I am hacked off as I asked for it to be paid via BACS. Uselessness seems to prevail with finances where the government is concerned right now:/

toffeetoes · 19/03/2008 12:39

The thing I don't get is why go in early this week when the bank holiday is next?

FAQ · 19/03/2008 12:40

because the Bank Holiday is monday - I don't know about you but I get my CB on a Monday - which would be next Monday - so rather than making people wait for their money they give it to them slightly early

toffeetoes · 19/03/2008 12:46

I get mine on a tues.

gillybean2 · 19/03/2008 12:46

toffeetoes · 19/03/2008 12:48

If you get what I mean

gillybean2 · 20/03/2008 11:30

My WTC/CTC which was due tomorrow got paid today, and my CB which was due monday came in today too. Both by bank transfer straight to my account. I really can't understand why you were sent a Giro and keep having these problems.

If you want it paid by bank transfer (and lets face it it's quicker, easier and less likely to get lost/stolen and doesn't have to clear) then write to them clearly stating you wish all future payments to be direct to your bank, that they have your details but you confirm again that they are bank abc, account xxx, sort code yyy in name of zzz. Put your NI number on the letter and any other relevant codes.

Ask for their confirmation in writing within 21 days that your records have been updated accordingly and that future payments will be by bank transfer.

In the 9 years I've been getting IS, CB and/or WTC/CTC I've never had an issue like this. I've had issues where they paid me too much when they made the payment twice in the same month due to some supposed computer error (which happened more than once)! But never not had the payment made and had to chase them up for it once they had all my details.

Be polite but firm. They are doing a job, but you are the client/customer and you should get a decent service from them.

I got my CB today (should have been paid on Monday coming)........no sign of my CTC which would have been paid today had I not called up on Friday to inform them of change of circumstances and put in a new claim......
