How does CMS payments work

My ex is becoming late and unreliable with maintenance payments, so I want to go through CMS. He has our daughter approx 8 nights a month. Do you just apply on the website? He is the kind of person who will lie when asked how much he has our daughter, so I'm concerned if I apply that I won't actually be paid the amount given (FYI we're talking a few hundred here not thousands)

Phone them to start a case. There is a cost. It was £20 when I opened mine. They will need his name address etc NI number if you have it. And will do a calculation based on his earnings. There is a reduction for the number of over nights he has.

You can apply online, it costs £20 unless you’ve experienced domestic abuse where the fee is waived.

It take a few weeks to get sorted. You can put down how often he has his Dd and he will have to prove otherwise if he says it’s more.

It’s pretty simple tbh. And it takes away all the stress. If he pays late I would consider doing collect and pay, they do take a percentage but it ensures he pays every single month. They can be a bit funny about it though and usually want to start you on direct pay.
