I’m a single mom to a 2 month old baby. BD a walked out on us both and emigrated after a messy breakup and will more than likely be gone a number of years. We weren’t married. Because of the trauma of the breakup I want to now leave the country with my son and emigrate to Australia for a fresh start as I’ve always wanted to before I had a baby. I’m in the process of getting us permanent residency for OZ. I have a degree I can use there. Has anyone been in a similar situation and moved as a single parent and was it a positive experience? TIA

Sorry hon I didn’t want to read and run, although I have no experience of this, I have cousins who have moved to Australia with children and never looked back. I also worked with a midwife who moved out there to work before having children the job was very different to what it is in the UK which she didn’t enjoy and it didn’t work out as she was so close to her family and she felt very isolated.

I think it’s great that you are in a situation where this is an option for you, it is my dream for a fresh start abroad with my children but too much of a blended family to be able to consider it at this point in time.

do you have any family over there? Or are you happy that you will be able to make new friendships easily enough?

Either way depending on how much of a support network you have at home my personal opinion is you should go for it!! I hope everything works out beautifully for you and your little one xx

Thanks for ur reply. I have no family there but I have friends in WA and my bd actually lives there now although we wouldn't be near him as we don't speak and he wouldn't want to see us.
