I’m sure this will have been covered before, I’m a single parent, have no family who are near. What on earth do people do if their child is poorly in relation to work? Is it a case of ringing work and just hoping they will understand? I was married to the child’s father but had to leave when the relationship became abusive, my child is 6

You just have to ring work and tell them you can’t come in. If possible you wfh. Unfortunately you may find that an unsympathetic employer sacks you for it. Ok they won’t sack you outright, but they will “manage you out”, ie find a legal way to get rid of you. That’s why a lot of mums struggle to keep a proper full time job.
