I've seen this site recommended by a few people on here. I understood it to be free but just found out you can't send messages unless you pay a fee - how can you meet someone if you don't pay? Am I just being thick!

anyone used it?

You have to pay to do anything other than window shop. It is worth it though, the two men I met through it were quite pleasantly normal. Not true love, but not axe wielding stalkers. It was certainly the best of the bunch IMO - though the best totty always seemed to be in Edinburgh or Brighton for some reason!

I think you can get a three day trial for about 6 quid, so pick out lots of good'uns that you want to email all ready, bombard them, and then once they've messaged you back you're allowed to give them your email - (get a new one if your real name is in your usual one) and then if it's all going well, you can leave it there.

Or you can go on and get a month or more's sub, about 20 pounds I think. But if you do the trial, and don't immediately sign up for more, they'll send you a percentage off deal quite soon IIRC.

Good luck, it's quite fun, but terribly addictive initially. There's also a lot of people who seem to just want to email/msn, and never actually meet! But worth a whirl.

ONe of my friends met her now-DH through SOulmates, so it's worth a try. I suggset geting a Hotmail or Gmail account just for that, though, as you might not want to muddle it up with the rest of your email.

Don't know much about it other than our very good friend found his current partner there. They have been together for 5 years and living together for just over a year.

Getting married on June 8th to someone I met on soulmates... so it DOES work... happy ever after can come true...!

What's more worrying is that the Guardian READ ALL OF YOUR MESSAGES to other members!

They must do because even if you pay you cant send other people, even if they reply to you with their one liners, your contact details.

Not even if you make it super cryptic they still remove it from your messages. Messages take a while to arrive giving the staff time to read and edit your message as they see fit. No where in the privacy policy does it mention this is the case. I think that's a bit off!

So you can only ever meet someone if BOTH of you are paying subscribers, which seems a very small percentage of the site.

I've used it as a paid subscriber and think it's a pretty good site as I met quite a few men, best if you're in/near London though. Wouldn't worry about privacy, think all the sites are much the same in that respect.
