Just that and has it increased to take the cost of living into consideration?

I'm absolutely not thrilled after five years of receiving ZERO when Ex is a higher earner than me, but that wasn't the point of my post if you actually read it.

How did you expect CM to be enforced if you didn’t inform them he wasn’t paying?

CallmeIT · 23/12/2022 17:39

Whatever the CMS figure was at the point of our divorce around 10 years ago. I’m reasonably sure his earnings will have increased in that time but he assures me not 🙄 so no, no COL increase here.

I’m surprised by PP saying non-resident parents shouldn’t contribute more in this climate. Increases in the costs of raising children should be borne by both parents, not just the resident one.

I didn’t want anything to do with him, he was abusive. I didn’t go to CMS, like plenty on here dont. I just worked overtime and paid our way in life.

You could have knocked me over when the spiteful swine went to CMS after not contributing a penny for years. They only look forward not backwards.

MrsMontyD · 23/12/2022 17:50

It's a fairly pointless question as maintenance, assuming you use for CMS calculation, is based on the NRP's income and how many nights your dc spends with him, so what my exH pays is irrelevant unless your exH earns exactly the same and our access arrangements are exactly the same. Cost of living doesn't come into it.

I would advise against relying on maintenance long term, as it's only payable up to the dc turning 19 at the latest and only then if they're still in full time education on a course that meets the criteria, that day soon comes around and you'll lose child benefit, if you receive it, at the same time, which is potentially a big drop in income.

AbsolutelyFuckingSick · 23/12/2022 17:33

No you said you didn't ask for it. Therefore didn't use cms.

Well done 👍🏻 , I didn’t ask him, because of the history, or use CMS. But once they’re involved what I’m asking is why aren’t people being made to pay.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 23/12/2022 18:00

£250 a month for one child. I did receive much more for 2 children but one child went to live with him.

He then calculated what I would pay for one child and what he would pay for one child. He pays me the difference between the two figures as he is the higher earner.

People are often shocked when they hear how he worked this out, and that he's paid without complaint for 10 years now.

fedupofthiscoldffs · 23/12/2022 18:03

Nothing since DD10 was a few months old.
He's an absolute twat and I'd rather starve than take a penny off him

taxpayer1 · 23/12/2022 18:23

The cost of living subject is a pressing issue. I don't have a definite opinion.

I get 720/month for my 6 yr old.
Hasn’t increased in response to the cost of living crisis

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 23/12/2022 18:37

£0

Have never had a penny off him and dds 16yo now!!

UntilHootOwlReturns · 23/12/2022 18:41

GoodVibe · 23/12/2022 17:00

I don’t understand why it isn’t enforced.

I didn’t ask my Ex for maintenance as I didn’t want anything to do with him, he was an abusive twat.

My son went to live with him at 15 and guess what, Ex went straight to CMS, this was after he hadn’t paid me a penny since DS was 10 years old. For five years I’d done bank work and not been able to afford more than a weekend away while I met every cost of what DS did in life.

CMS look at your prior year earnings and calculate a sum due.

In my case it was almost double the £300 I had agreed to pay before their involvement which is ridiculous, a 15 year old does not cost £600 a month. I should know, he’d lived with me all his life.

My Ex is a spiteful bastard.

So why don’t these absent parents pay?

It's appalling that he didn't pay when your son lived with you. BUT hell yes a 16 year old costs that much. You have to put a roof over their head, buy their clothes and food, oayfor trips/ hobbies, transport etc. Damn right whoever isn't living with them should pay and probably a lot more than £600 pcm!!

Lenald · 23/12/2022 18:43

£450 for three kids from one dad. 4th kid, different dad, £270.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 23/12/2022 18:47

£300 for one child, it hasn't increased with COL. I do ask for him to contribute monthly towards our child's school food which is separate from CM.

ViburnumFarreri · 23/12/2022 18:54

£200 pcm til she was 5, then £240 pcm thereafter (after I had to write down everything I spent on her for a month and he then paid half of that). It was never increased again.

What about rent for the cost of her room, electricity, water, petrol, council tax etc. men can be idiots

Stressfordays · 23/12/2022 19:04

I occasionally get £29 a month for 3 kids, if he receives his benefits for that month and isn't in prison.

Trinity69 · 23/12/2022 19:09

My ex might chip in for new school uniform, so probably works out about £150 a year.

isthistheendtakeabreath · 23/12/2022 19:14

£350 for 3 children - 2 of whom are twins - doesn't even touch the sides of the £2k a month childcare bill I have

SpinningFloppa · 23/12/2022 21:01

Nothing, was suppose to be £7 per week for 4 children but cms aren’t able to get it

Valhalla17 · 23/12/2022 21:03

Zero in 11yrs. He has 3 "new" children though that get everything, his first born nada!

Lucky for me I worked hard and am on a decent salary.

SoggyBananaLoaf · 23/12/2022 21:07

£150 per month for two teenagers. He thinks he's doing me a favour!

Unthinkable8 · 23/12/2022 21:07

£1200pm back in the day. Though only because the court made him.

AlexandraJJ · 23/12/2022 21:09

Less than £90 a month, he reduced his hours a lot when he inherited money. He didn’t want to pay anything

xmaslurgy · 23/12/2022 21:11

It won't go up for cost of living. The NRP's wage Hasn't gone up.

Oher · 23/12/2022 21:13

£0. Never received anything.
