books to help 2.5 yr old understand why he is 'going to start staying with daddy'

have been to the library and asked at pre-school but they have nothing. ds is going to start going to fathers on alt w/e and currently is crying and going very quiet on me when i try and (very nicely!!!) tell him about it, anyone reccommend any books/video's????

Two Homes

This looks quite good

my DCs were 4 & nearly 2 when first started going to daddy's
I didnt read a book or show them a video.
I just explained they were going to stay with daddy at his house and that they would be coming home after staying 2 nights.
Children are very adaptable and if you can be strong & "happy" when he leaves, he will just accept it.

The first time they went away I was happy & waved them away and THEN shut the door & cried
They were fine and still are.....

they know where their home is and while they enjoy/accept going to daddy's, they always look forward to coming home.

Its hard but try not to worry too much - you will be the one who finds it hard, not your DS.

Mistressmiggins, ta for the advice, you are absolutely right it will i am sure be me doing ALL the crying (i already am) but have to keep telling myself it is the right thing even though the selfish side of me is convinced it is not!!!

have always been completely honest with dd and upbeat and then when her dad picks her up i give her a kiss, say see you 2moro, ans then go back indoors, panic a bit and then come to the library to moan on mn. it helps a lot, cos bytthe time my time has expired on library pc (only 2hrs) i am usually hungry and have had soem fresh air on the way here (only 5 to 10mins walk away) and it does help. i also think that those two books mentioned sound very good. amazon sell second hand books, some of which are in amazing condition. it might be worht looking on there. (though you set up an account first). or ask local bookshop to order for you possibly? good luck xxx

Two homes is a fantastic tbook, I'rve goto it for my daughter asnd it re'ally helped her visualise and get a sense that she had a home at dads (me) and a home at mums (ex)

Definetly Koko the bear,look it up on Amazon,I really cannot recommend it highly enough!!! It helped my daughter understand the situation,it's helped me and the ex sooo much in helping her to understand what was happening,and about having two homes.She said after we read her the story-I feel sooo much better now,and let off the first smile in ages.That was back in sept,and she still remembers "koko bear who helped me":-)

Ah thanks for remembering me Lewis!!!! I have bought that book and am waiting for it to arrive.
Am still having nightmares about him going but have been busy making plans for the garden and buying paint to decorate!!! Have done no gardening or decorating for the past 2 1/2 years so there is plenty to do when he is at his dads!!!!
And then i will lay in bed at night worrying at all the times he usually wakes up and crys.... Oh god I really have to get it in my head that it absolutely is the best thing for him,but will still be just a little bit gutted when he comes home tellng me how fab daddy is!
