I’m excited to be getting a week break with my 10 month old near the seaside and want to make the most of being by the beach.

As it’ll just be the two of us i want to pack minimally but also am worried I might forget something when im down the beach (a bus ride away from where we are staying).

what do you recommend is a must to bring? Any tips on bringing a young one to the beach?

It's not the cleanness I would be concerned about.

It's the grinding sound of sand between little teeth and the nosebleeds from sand poked up the nose, plus the raw, red bums from sand getting into the nappy. You will not be able to stop a crawling baby crawling off the blanket or out from under the canopy.

It is not fun at all and dealing with the sore bum and sunburn isn't nice either.

Rain and mud are ideal as sensory experiences go. Sand is not.

Thanks everyone! What lovely messages! I hadn’t considered the UV protection of the tent - I’ll be sure to check the label when I pick it up (I’m borrowing it). I’m really looking forward to it now and feel prepared. I’ll let you know how it goes.

We did it! And she loved it!

We were only there for 90 minutes; we got there early to beat crowds and the heat of the sun. It was more than enough time to have a snack, splash in the shallows, dig up some sand and splash in a bucket of water. Yes - sand got everywhere but nothing a bath won’t sort out. No - she won’t remember it but I have lovely memories to savour now; especially feeding my baby some milk before we headed back whilst she’s all wrapped up in a sun-warmed towel. I think she’ll nap well today! Thanks everyone for the advice and encouragement.

For the love of puppies do not go to a beach with a ten month old baby.

If you really feel you must, bring a pack and play.

Your baby is going to spend her time eating sand, getting sand in her eyes, getting sand in her ears, and getting sand in her nappy, and you are both going to end up miserable.

This!!!
