CM if NRP isn’t working or claiming benefits

What happens if you open a case but the NRP isn’t working or claiming benefits? I know you won’t get any money but does the case stay open with arrears building or not? Is there any point having a case open?

Mine did. Been open 5 years. Was working at the start then period of unemployment and self employment so no trace on HMRC. Once he was in payed employment I got some money. Although didn't last long.

Happy to stand corrected but I think better to have open as otherwise I think there's a time limit in the starting point of a claim. Whereas in theory if the nrp starts working csm should start

Stays open.
Then they claim benefits you £7 per week, then they stop.
Then they get a job then they leave within 30 days you get nothing.
Then get a zero hours contract they moan that no one can tell what they need to pay, you direct them to the website calculator.
Then they decide they need a rest and stop working.
Eventually your child is 18 and out of education and you no longer have to deal with them.
This at least is my experience.

My ex is currently paying 10 years of arrears. I expect someone warned him he wouldn't get much of an old age pension if he didn't pay tax and NI as he's actually stuck with job out for a while now.

I get roughly £200 per month standard payment and £200 arrears per month.
