Housing benefit and eldest turning 16

I'm still on tax credits and housing benefit . I have 3 children and rent a 3 bed house. Rent goes up yearly and moving isn't an option. However, my two boys share but the eldest will turn 16 in the next couple of months. I've read housing benefit will go up as he will be entitled to his own room. I can't afford to move so will I not get the increase or will I be expected to move? Please advise if anyone can? Thanks

I don't think you get the increased allowance unless you are in a property where he actually has his own room x

Yes as a PP said you are staying where you are so you will get the same amount of housing benefit.

IF there was an increase, it would be because you were renting a bigger house, but you're staying where you are so no changes I don't think.

I’m assuming this is a private rental? Rent will go up to the relevant LHA or actual rent, whichever is lowest.

LilacPoppy · 03/06/2022 12:35

You won’t be expected to move but as you live in a 3 bed you will continue to get the LHA for a 3 bed.

HB will go up, not rent.

Thanks all. My main worry was that I'd be expected to move. I'd never be able to afford a 4 bed house . I don't even get a third of my rent from housing benefit as it is .

OP, ask your HB department on Monday.
