Chips maintenance - can't 'find' him

Left abusive marriage 6 months ago. I finally applied for child maintenance because he refused to come to any agreement. Now CMS have written to me that they have been unable to 'find him' despite me including his address, NI number and employer details! Apparently it's because he has not updated any of his records from our old marital home to his new address, so they can't 'prove' he lives there. They have even spoken to him, they have his HMRC record but they still can't proceed. I now have to submit court documentation with his new address on it but they are still saying there is no guarantee they'll accept that. What else can I do? It seems so ridiculous.

They can send mail via his employer.

Yes but apparently they can't even accept my claim because there is no record of him living at the address. His employer still has him on record as being in the marital home too.

Am not sure how it would work for CMS but I contacted my local council to confirm my ex had moved out and to confirm his new address so I could claim single adult discount, and I got something in writing from them to confirm. I think you can do something via a credit report company like Experian as they will have him on their records as a person connected to your address (you possibly need to contact them to provide the new address and confirm he's no longer connected to the property). Maybe if you take steps to force him to update his address with various agencies it will help move things along. Could you contact the HR department of his employer to confirm the new address? Make sure you get him taken off any bills.

I was really trying hard to figure out what that meant, when I saw the title thread! Grin

No advice, sorry, but thought I’d let you know that your thread raised a smile today. Hope it works out for you to get some help with this, and well done for getting out - that takes a lot of strength!

Good suggestions, thanks! I have now also submitted court documentation which I hope they'll accept.
