Lone parents

If you are a single parent and have a teenager do you have a social life?

My dd is nearly 15, she is pretty sensible and can be left alone for a few hours. She always says I should go out and leave her home (as she doesn't want to go anywhere). I feel bad leaving her home alone as she is an only child, maybe if there was two children I wouldn't worry that she would feel lonely.

Just wondering if others do go out for a few hours in the evening and leave dc home alone?

Yes, I have a 14 year old sensible ds. I go out on weekends till about midnight at the latest. Maybe twice a month.

We're both happy with it and have had no issues.

Bloody hell yes go out!! I think it’s better she’s an only at least she won’t fight with her siblings, I couldn’t leave mine home together as they fight like cat and dog.

My kids like having the house to themselves. I would go out (but not overnight)

I think it's fine to leave her sometimes at that age - I'm sure she won't be stuck home alone all of the time, and that you have plenty of time with her as well.

Or if you feel bad, just go out when she goes out with her friends?

I don’t think it’s an issue at all. But if you’re worried why not start for short periods or get your DD to invite a friend over?

I am an only child and single parent to an only child but trust me only children learn to be self reliant and enjoy their own company.

I used to live being on my own growing up and to this day really enjoy my own space. Ds does also.

My daughter, 13, is OK home alone for a few hours ... but she doesn't like being home alone when it's dark outside 😕

I have 14 year old and I'm a single parent. She's happy to be left in the day and I'll leave her at night until about 9.30, but I have a very good friend who lives behind me and good neighbours to should something happen. I don't go out a lot but do occasionally go fir meals or meet up for coffee etc
