Father not in birth certificate - any rights to access?

General advice please...

The father of my son is not on birth certificate - will he have any rights to access at any point in the future?

Sadly he has shown no interest in being involved (after 20 years and leaving me at 5 months pregnant!) but I am worried he may resurface at some point....

If he "resurfaces" now your son is over 20 its totally up to your son if he has a relationship with him

The son isn't over 20.

Ultimately you can’t put him on the birth certificate if you’re not married and he doesn’t go with you to sign it. I think that not putting him on there is a good idea personally (I didn’t after splitting with my abusive ex when pregnant) as it means you have more rights in terms of choosing schools, him not being contacted for consent by doctors etc. and being the default for child benefit etc. honestly though, I doubt he will come looking for a relationship with his child if he’s left now, but if he does then he has a legal right so long as a DNA test proves he’s the father.
