What do you get up to in av evening?

I’m just curious to what other parents get up to once their DC are asleep. Watching the TV each night is great most of the time as it’s much needed down time, but I’m curious to what others get up to as obviously being a solo parent you can’t leave the house!

Look on MN 😬, clean, nothing much really I don’t get any nights off though so same thing every night.

Depends on my energy levels —and if I’m pissed—.On a good night… life admin, online yoga, work related stuff. I‘ve just finished making a peg loom rug. On a bad night…slumped in front of the TV, or exchanging messages with the lewd men of the internet 😆. On my child free weekends I cannot spend an evening at home. Even if it’s just going swimming, I HAVE to be out.

Clean up, sort washing or whatever, have a bath, eat ridiculous amounts of fattening snacks and attempt to read my kindle but more often than not fall asleep with it on my face.

I've had four evenings where I have been able to go out of an evening, and one of those was an overnight hospital stay. Needless to say father is not involved (abusive bastard). It's very depressing.

babycornfortea · 22/01/2022 21:27

Sorry, four evenings 'out' since dd was born (and she's four!) with the prerequisite I was home by ten, as my mother was babysitting.
Apart from the hospital stay.

Bugger all! By the time I've tidied, got the kids to bed, sorted the pets etc, I'm fit for nothing except WhatsApp a few friends, but mostly mindless TV and scrolling Mumsnet. Occasionally I spice things up swiping dating apps, a card game on my phone or trying to read something on my kindle app.

Yup more of the same. Cook, homework, some housework, always a washing in/out every evening. TV/ extra/ catch up work stuff.
What is really like is to batch cook and do some yoga/Pilates buy my face seems to fall in a packet of crisps or two

Thanks for your replies! Some good ideas on here too. I don’t know if it’s just the winter mindset of cold dark evenings, coupled with finding a good series on Netflix but every night I just seem to collapse on the sofa. I wonder if I’ll feel this way in summer when the evenings are lighter. The DC don’t stay with their Father overnight yet so my options are limited, but I may look into doing some online exercise videos. Thanks for the ideas :)

When DD is with me, just TV/Netflix or scrolling through various SM sites... Not very exciting! Other times (when she's with me or not) I do sewing... My ex actually bought me a sewing machine (with my agreement, so not why we split lol) for my birthday - the idea behind it being probably/possibly having to make costumes for dancing shows. Probably the best thing he ever bought me (considering for the previous 5 years we were together he got me FA). Here's my latest project lol

That’s pretty cool purple…I’ve got a sewing machine, but all I can sew is square things 😆. Planning to make a couple of new cushions to go with my new rug.

OhMelville · 22/01/2022 23:14

Wow you made this? It looks fantastic!

Square things are good - you could make quilts as a lot those use squares. I've not tried quilting yet, as I wonder what I'd actually do with them/where I'd store them... Clothe type items (for now) seem semi useful lol - I do suspect though that my DD will undoubtedly claim it's itchy or something and she'll never wear it 🙈🙈🙈

Thank you ☺️☺️ - it's definitely not perfect, but I'm also pleased with it - I'm enjoying learning, so I hope to have less hiccups with the next one 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I tend to work as I've got a remote job and never seem to manage to cram it into nursery hours. When I am on top if work things I clean, watch TV, message friends, or or have a bath. Not v exciting

BigValue · 23/01/2022 23:31

They go to bed at 6:30. Then I lie in bed in the dark until I fall asleep around midnight.
