Online date not replying to text, is he still interested?

Got chatting to a nice guy online dating site (a paid for one as was trying to avoid serial shaggers). He asked me out and we had a lunch date that he traveled to me for. Went well with good conversation and banter, feel we were attracted to eachother. There was a follow up text and he said he would like to see me again but is yet to suggest another date! Is he stringing me along? We have chatted loads on WhatsApp and he has been messaging me back instantly until the last one I sent him yesterday where i tried to pin him to a date. He's been online since but still hasn't replied. Why would he say he wants another date but then not commit? Anyone have experience of this with old?

Update! Just got a WhatsApp from him and he apologised for not getting in touch, said his ex had gone psycho and his dad was in hospital. Hmmm am glad he has apologised and he had said his dad was sick, but not sure how I feel about the term psycho when describing an ex!

that's very confusing. Personally I'd probably just leave things with him, sounds like too many excuses and the ex being a psycho thing is another red flag.

Helllllllsssss no

Do not engage
A message takes under 30 seconds to send. It’s total BS…
Don’t respond dont “be kind”
Block and move on

So when his father got ill did his thumbs fall off??? Making him unable to say "Family probs, get back to you soon"

You've dented his ego. Block the fucker.

Hmm whenever an OLDer gives the same tired hackneyed excuse about relative in hospital, be mindful you have no way of knowing if they're lying through their teeth or not. I'd take it with a big pinch of salt.

My DH and I met through OLD and coincidentally, neither of us had any dramatic excuses up our sleeves or went all silent on each other. What does it take to send a text or WhatsApp, 30 seconds tops? Probably because we didn't want to risk it and screw things up. Just be aware of someone playing cat and mouse, they have to have a dramatic excuse so you don't question them....

daisychain01 · 11/01/2022 03:24

You're right about the "psycho ex". Not a good look....

BlusteryLake · 11/01/2022 06:07

Following your update OP, he is stringing you along. That message sounds like a bunch of excuses from someone who wants to make minimal effort and still have your attention.

AllThatGlistensIs · 11/01/2022 06:38

Oh OP… that’s just classic bullshit right there! Block and move on.

Pea79 · 11/01/2022 06:52

I think this is called "breadcrumbing" where they respond just enough to keep you hanging on, without any real commitment to meeting up. It's shitty behaviour and sadly it ultimately means they're not really interested. OLD is brutal, but I have many friends for whom it has worked successfully, so stick with it (taking breaks, when needed). Hopefully you will get a feel quite quickly for the many ways that people can waste your time. X

Fitzroygurl10087 · 11/01/2022 08:32

Thanks all xx id not heard the term breadcrumbing, so much new language to learn! I agree as his messages are vague and no suggestion of meeting up. Hope it works out for all of us! Xx

The problem is that OLD sites are like sweet shops, and some people like the chase and buzz of new chats, a lot of people on the sites are not interested in long term relationships, but hang on in there, I met my fiance on Tinder.
