Not sure about furniture grants, but put a plea on freecycle, and see what you get.

The council offices should be able to tell you. Our council have something where they do up old stuff and sell it really cheap to people on benefits etc. They sell everything from sofas to kitchen cupboards.

Freecycle usually has beds, sofas on offer - put a "Wanted" up though because they go really quick otherwise and you may miss out.

Look for cooker/washing machine/fridge in the local newspaper - I got myself an electric cooker for £30 that way; it wasn't the best but it cooked food! Is still working 3 yrs on.

If your on Is, you can claim a 'budgeting loan' for furniture.
The council can help you with numbers for refurbished stuff like washing machines, fridges, beds. Yes Freecycle is also an excellent choice too.

How about charity shops for lamps, little items like a desk or bedside table? I got a fabulous set of curtains and a duvet set for the cost of £5.00 2 days ago.

Even a newspaper like 'Loot' if you live in London...the ads in your local newspaper, or even ads in your newsagent. Can get some good bargains there!

HTH and merry xmas x x x

and ebay of course.

I got a pair of nursery curtains for my DS bedroom for £1 50!
