Hi. So I'm newly single. Still in the work work don't think stage. But last night i found myself again anxious at there not being another adult in the house. Being with my partner or just his presence in the house calmed me down so much.
Any tips on how to feel comfortable alone and responsible?

The best way is to take control of your home security. Get a ring doorbell and make sure all your windows are very secure.

There are other things you can do to make your home less attractive to robbers etc....such as motion sensor lights front and back...also make sure there are no bushes screening windows. Burglars love bushes as they can hide behind them whilst they break or force windows.

Other things include getting a big dog and training ir properly.

But mainly remember that break ins aren't that common.

I've lived on my own for many years so I am pretty much used to it now. However, the small things that make me feel safer and less anxious. A bolt on my garden gate that is very difficult the undo and having some noise in the house after DS has gone to bed e.g. tv, music (even if just low level background noise). I also keep my doors locked all the time. I find winter harder than summer so I tend to close the curtains as soon as it starts getting dark but also put lights on in rooms all around the house both front and back so it is obvious that I am home. I also have a landline phone that I barely use but it is there if my mobile stops working etc.

Get a dog
Mine goes off like a rocket at the slightest noise or movement around the house at nighttime she is incredibly protective of me and the kids
I let her have free roam of entire downstairs front to back. Once she did actually scare some chancer off

If I'm alone I like to listen to the radio...prefer non music stations like lbc or talk radio...makes me feel less alone

If you have a fence, attach trellis along the top.

Good window locks.

Good security.

You do get used to it after a bit.
