I want to change my daughters surname as father is absent, it seems I can’t change it without his permission even though he is absent, he wouldn’t agree anyway, is there any way to change it without his permission, court?

If she's under one I think you can just get a new birth certificate.

If not I think you're stuck with her current name but having her known by your surname at school etc when she's 16 she can change her name to whatever she likes.

She’s not under 1 unfortunately, it’s so annoying that there is nothing in place when a father is absent!
