Help with application for social housing!

Hi all, not sure if this is the best place to post but can anyone help me with what documents I need to send over for social housing?...
I'm unsure about the following?

Proof of identification for all household members –
I have a passport for me and my 4 year old, but not for my 1 year old? Is a birth certificate sufficient?
Proof of current address –
Would a bank statement be proof? I don’t pay the utility bills?
Proof that your child resides with you –
I don’t have a court order, would universal credit statement be sufficient?

Thank you!

Yes, birth cert will be fine. Re the bank statement as proof of address, is it a letter? IF so that should be fine. Universal credit statement should do.

But you should call the housing office to check first.

Yes will be fine

I process applications for social housing, for us we’d require proof of address (an official type letter such as tv licence, bank statement etc showing your name and address dated within the last 12 months)

Proof of resident children we would accept a screenshot of your UC account showing your name, address and number of children you get support for, or a recent bank statement showing your name and address and your child Ben payment going in (as this is a set amount we can work out how many kids you have from it)

We don’t ask for proof of ID for all household members though only photo ID for the main applicant if they have it (we know not everyone has a drivers licence or passport) so unsure what would be ok for that one. We don’t use birth certificates for anything in my authority so they would be useless for us.

Wow thank you so much for the replies and support everyone :)

Hi there, they're was just one more question I missed off that I am unsure about!

Proof I have lived in my district for 3 years??? How do I prove this 😬 I thought bank statement but o closed my bank recently and created a new current account so can't rely on this! I'm so unsure!

Also proof that I am on housing benefit or have the housing benefit element of universal credit?
I don't have either of these as I've never claimed housing before but I was told by citizens advice last year I was entitled to it?

What about council tax letter going back those years? Get copies from council office

november90 · 13/06/2021 20:04

I live with my parents so I don't have one 😬 but thank you! I wish they would just have a list of approved documents for these many things they require 🙈

In my council we can check council tax records and parents are classed as a local connection so if your parents have paid council tax in your borough for the last 3 years that would qualify you.

Or if you have letters addressed to yourself dating back the 3 years (we ask for at least one letter for each year) bit obviously each place accept different things.

TheGriffle · 13/06/2021 20:38

For the housing element you could just tell them you have never claimed this before but will be doing so when applicable? This isn’t a requirement where I work but I’m guessing not everyone who applies for housing is on receipt of housing benefit or uc housing element so they should be able to let you know what to do.

Electoral register would show you have lived at your parents address for 3 years

Gp could confirm your address for 3 years, but not sure if they’d charge

november90 · 13/06/2021 21:37

Thanks everyone! I just had a thought, would a p60/payslip be sufficient? They have my address on!

Yes, it’s from a government department

november90 · 15/06/2021 18:57

Thank you everyone! I rang the helpline and they confirmed everything you have told me :)
