I was reading that if you apply for a child’s passport you need to include BOTH sets of grandparents details, is this true? When will these places realise not everyone has contact with their ex, such a mistake putting him on the birth certificate ☹️

That's only if you don't have a British passport as that means you are passing your British citizenship on to them. If you put your passport number on the application you don't need their details

The relevant bit from the passport notes

Thank you! Where I read it it was written as a fact and I couldn’t find anything online saying otherwise. I have a passport so I won’t need it then.

You can get a copy of the notes here but that bit of information is a bit hidden. I just know the issue has been raised before so knew where to find it

When I applied for my elder kids passports I just wrote in the notes section that they are estranged from their father so I was unable to provide his and his mothers details (his father is unknown on this birth certificate). Passports were issued without a problem in that regards.

I didn’t have to grandparents down for my children’s applications, they are 6 and 1. I was born late 80s

I was asked for their details but my son's dad and family have all chose to be absent so I said they didn't have them. I was then asked to send my parents marriage license in which I never understood, but his passport was issued no problem
