ok i know there is a post strike, DD (11) didnt bother getting me a card, i heard her say the other day that she was going to make one, but this morning she said she didnt have time, i had a right go at her, now i feel really bad for making her cry, i was in tears and still am typing this. Am also thinking well hey its not her fault, she was out with her dad on saturday shopping, could she have asked to let her go in somewhere and get a card for me? I feel like the most horrible mother in the world, its only a birthday after all!

I feel very strongly about trying to spoil people on their birthdays so glad you felt a wee bit pampered before the day was over. you deserve it. happy birthday!

itbird · 08/10/2007 21:46

of course it's all the postman's fault, i have lots of family but they all live miles away!! Damn strike!! Although i do agree with their reasons for striking,it is still not bloody fair (stamps foot!)

Happy birthday to you. Do not get upset with your DD. I think that if she forgot of your card is because she is still very young and doesn´t realise how much that matters. Perhaps you should tell her latter that you missed it, taht yoy need to be loved and cherished , for her to remember next year...

On the other way, it means she is carefree about life, not anxious or too upset with adults, and that must be a good sign of mental wellbeing...

Happy biirthday from us all xxx

all sorted now, came home from school and spent a long time locked in her room and produced a lovely card that she had made. Yes definately carefree and dizzy bit like me!!!

Sounds like she felt guilty - glad she made a fuss of you

lilolilREALLYISFEMALE · 09/10/2007 09:21

see, she does love you!! I reckon you should plan an "official birthday" when your cards arrive after the strike. Have a special tea with your DS and open your cards.

glad your day improved.

this year i took dd to my mum's and my bro was supposed to come with his kids for a bbq.

bro was too hungover, mum went into a proper sulk due to wasted food.

i had a card from dd and my mum but no gift as mum/bro/sis couldn't decide what to get me

didn't even get a tiddly gift from dd which my mum normally does on mother's day etc (dd is 23m)

the only actual gift i got was from (ex)MIL!

so, my 41st was a bit of a wash-out all in all!

oh well, i guess it's not going to get any better LOL!

really pleased your day ended well in the end.
