My 3yr old daughter is asking where her dad is, haven't a clue what to say to her!
Was with her dad only 4 mths and found out was preggers few wks after split up. He didn't and still doesn't want anything to do wiv her which is fine by me and he is now back with his ex wife who he has older kids with.
Any ideas??

The truth. In a diluted fashion, the truth, always.

I have a good friend who was/is in a very similar situation. She just always put forward the truth relevant to the level of understanding. In the early years it was along the lines of "you have a daddy just like everyone else, he wasn't ready to be a daddy and he doesn't live near us"

Thanks FG. Just dont really know what she would understand, that is half the problem. And hopefully what i do say next time she asks is enough for now for her. Have always told myself when she is older enough that i would tell her the truth.

what about something along the lines of ...
well, the man who gave me the seed which made you a baby in my tummy is called XXX and he lives a long way away so we don't really know him.
But you are really lucky because you have x, y and Z (grandparents, uncles/aunties, friends) to play with/ who love you so much.

Help dd to feel lucky, special and loved and not lacking anything (as I'm sure you do .)

I totally agree with frumpy. Tell the truth now, but in very basic terms.

Something like "he wasn't ready to be a daddy and he doesn't live nearby" sounds great and age appropriate.
