Divorce after seperation question if you have been through this

having been seperated for two years i am now beginning my divorce ,could anyone whi has done this tell me approx how long this takes if both parties sign etc thank you

mine took 3 months from date of application /signing to the judge signing/approving it (that was in scotland - don't know if it is different elsewhere in the UK).

if there is no contesting, it should be around that time - may be 6 months .. not entirely sure

Mine was in England and also took about 3 months. We didn't involve any solicitors, just printed the forms off and took to court when signed with a cheque. Decree Nisi took about 6 weeks and Absolute was final 6 weeks after that, certificate came a couple of weeks later

Mine was straightforward but took a bit longer - went to solicitor first of all at end of nov - finally received decree absolute at end of May. And was £2000 poorer This was split between exH and me.
This was in england, we'd agreed on everything beforehand, and just needed solicitor to make it legal.

TAWP - it is up to you if you want to use a solicitor but you don't actually need one to make it legal - just the correct signed forms and money handed in in person at the court. Ours cost about 130 quid IIRC (about 8 years ago)

It depends on whether you have children or any assets to sort out.

You can sort the divorce itself pretty quickly, but, unless the arrangements for the children and any maintenance has been sorted out fairly, then it may take sometime between decree nisi and decree absolute (most financial matters have to be sorted prior to obtaining a DA as they cannot be pursued after it unless merely seeking to vary an existing order).

Glad you are able to do this amicably. I will mention even if it is what you both want you may find actually going through the process a bit emotional, I know I did - even though I didn't expect to - but it was ok. Good luck
