What do you do when you run out of juice?

What do you do when you need a break but can't have one because you have absolutely no one to help and your child is getting frustrated because you haven't got the energy to give them what they need that day/week?

Stick them in front of the tv with their favourite show or movie then retreat to bedroom (if they are old enough to be on their own in another room) or sofa. Needs must.

Nothing you can do I’m afraid. My ex is absent and no family help. I have 4, never get a break.

if they are old enough - t.v and you chill/go in your room
bribe them (honestly for 10mins peace its worth it)
earlier bed time, take them out for the day to run round the park

Treat day, movies, snacks, take away food, maybe a magazine or small new toy to keep them busy.

When mine were smaller I'd put them in the bath (supervised obviously) with plastic cups etc. This still keeps my 5yr old busy for a while.

Before lockdown we'd go somewhere like soft play or trampoline Park where they could run wild but supervision and interaction needed from me is minimal. Go somewhere with good coffee.

Now my eldest is 9 he loves his ps4 he gets extra time playing on that.

I mean more people are now recognising that benign neglect is actually good for kids development 🤷🏻‍♀️ Make sure they're fed, sheltered, warm... not in danger...

But don't feel guilty about not being on their beck and call 24/7... being bored is apparently good for them? Grin
