Ex keeping son for bday

Hi everyone.
I have the worst narcissistic ex who at every opportunity tries to manipulate our son and now he's decided to keep him for his bday without even telling me as he's exceptionally put out I have a new boyfriend. This will be the first year I've not seen my son on his bday. He will be 7... Ny ex lives 4 hours away too so not like I can pop round (not that I can during these times anyway)...
I guess I'm ranting really AngryBut when you are the sole parent who does everything it's unreal.

I am sorry OP, that sucks.

When will you get him back? Any court order?

Elieza · 08/04/2020 19:09

You’ll do another birthday for your son and he will be happy to have two!

You had six out of seven birthdays so I suppose you can’t really complain, even if your ex is an ass.

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/04/2020 19:12

He shouldn’t be keeping him, obviously, but if he’s allowed contact and isn’t abusive to his child why has he not been able to enjoy celebrating his birthday with him before?

LochJessMonster · 08/04/2020 19:17

This will be the first year I've not seen my son on his bday. alternatively this will be the first year the father will have seen his son in his bday.

You need to sort out a proper contact schedule, alternate birthdays and Christmas’s etc

ZombieFan · 08/04/2020 19:34

You should be taking turns each birthday, so I assume you will get to have him next year. When he is back from his dads just have another party for him at yours, it doesn't really matter what day it is on.

Me and my ex have always been amicable and spent his bday with him together. I've even been happy (through gritted teeth) to allow the OW he left us for to attend... since I've started dating for the first time in 4 years since he left he's gone off his head and this is just one of many things.... x

Sorry I should have given more detail in my opening post ... No court order in place as we've always been amicable,..

Also I have always slowed my Ex to spend Christmas Day with us but this year he didn't want to due to new BF so we are now alternating.

He told me to deal with it him keeping him for his bday this year and he will meet half way in a week

I’m sorry OP.

You now need to get a court order. The court order allows everything to stay amicable.

LittleFoxKit · 22/04/2020 15:38

Agree that his behaviour is awful if its fueled by narcissism.

But if hes not abusive to your child, then he has as much right to see him on his birthday then you do. Just have a second birthday, that's what most separated families do, and you just take turns having him fir his actual birthday and then having a second birthday celebration either before or after the date.
