Hi I am a lone parent looking after 3 children. I’m on benefits due to health problem. Don’t get anything off ‘dad’,can’t get a crisis loan that will cover as I maxed after Christmas!! Plus will take forever.

I’m in desperate need of a gas cooker and a washing machine so I was told to ask my council, so I did the category I was in for what I need takes up to 15 working days that’s been and gone and they still not looked because of everything going on. They have stopped any deliveries of goods anyway for health reasons and are only concentrating on food parcel deliveries for the ‘vinerable’ which is fair enough I completely understand! We are isolated at the moment cos 3 of us have asthma!
My cooker is not even working what’s so ever and now the glass in the door is shattered so it’s not keeping in the heat anyway. Can’t go to mum and dads for tea, which is what we was doing before lockdown. Just don’t know i I’m going to cope and worrying over kids!

Anyone know or have any advice where else I can get help! Need one soon as possible.

Many thanks 🙏

Do you have a microwave?

If not could you parents drop theirs off at yours? Or buy you one or lend you one?

JulesRobxx · 27/03/2020 19:20

I did but it was burning everything so I threw it out before cooker broke! Wish I hadn’t now but bit late. Ur limited to what u can cook with the cheap microwaves and kids are hard to please when it comes to micro meals anyway (Ino it’s tuff if they Hungary they will eat)but it’s was hard to get them all to agree at the best of times. With all what’s going on It really is a strain on my especially as it’s challenging just keeping them all occupied with our ‘killing one another. Was alright going to see my parents for tea but now if that’s out of question plus dad has a pacemaker. Ill just have to wait and see. But thank u for replying just though I’d ask if there was any help out their like some grant?
Thank u again and take care x

I doubt it. Do you know anyone with an Argos card? I got mine on my sisters Argos card and have a year to pay it back she’s happy for me to use it

Julesxxxx · 29/03/2020 16:07

No if I did I would be lowering myself to ask. 🙈 it’s ok ty anyway tho x

PumpkinP · 29/03/2020 17:14

What’s the different between asking a family member and asking the government? Confused luckily my sister offered so I wasn’t “lowering myself”

AustinRd · 30/03/2020 22:15

Local Facebook Reuse page which aims to reduce items going to landfill (I’ve checked my local and their are microwaves, cookers, washing machines all on there) or COVID support page. Lots have been set up to ensure local resident have support during lockdown and isolation. Good luck x

Julesxxxx · 03/04/2020 23:54

Thanks for that and with our going to go much detail I dotn have any family I could ask if I have to explain neither do I have children’s dad in my children’s lives so if that answers you question pumpkin then there it is! I didn’t really want today I have nobody... but there u go that late the reason I asked government is that ok now?

Julesxxxx · 04/04/2020 00:02

So now u know my family info I’d just like to say I’ve sorted it now and I DIDNT GET IT OF THE GOVERNMENT I’m stuck home with 3 children 2 of which have asthma I was letting things get on top of me with not only what is going on but my own problems to which I won’t be disclosinG. I thought this site was where mums knew what it’s like to be a mum and people might of had info to share. I didn’t think I’d upset anyone for asking was there ANY help not all paid for of the government.

SpillTheTeaa · 04/04/2020 00:04

Julesxxxx · 04/04/2020 00:06

LochJessMonster · 04/04/2020 00:10

Can you look on your local freecycle or Facebook marketplace pages

Or get a small hob like this-
www.amazon.co.uk/Fine-Elements-Electrical-Double-Plate/dp/B0057JBK26?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_4&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

startalovetrain · 04/04/2020 00:10

Wow, pumpkin was only trying to help. Nowhere was she prying for info or trying to make you feel bad ConfusedConfused

Glad you are sorted, hopefully it is suitable for a few weeks, you can be really inventive with a microwave!

Julesxxxx · 04/04/2020 00:27

Well if I took it rhe wrong way then I’m sorry it was bad enough asking for help just felt when she said it did sound like i couldn’t ask for help of the government or like it was wrong to do so. If that isn’t what she meant then I amm truly sorry I have enough to on my plate at the moment and cooker was one of them

Julesxxxx · 04/04/2020 00:32

Sorry it’s was a gas cooker spilltheteaa.

Thank you lochjessmonster I look now. I’ll use this microwave for now but need to put aside so I can get a rough estimate.

The only prob with gas I’m sure you u can’t buy a gas cooker unless u pay for fitting is that correct anyone?

PumpkinP · 05/04/2020 01:05

Tbf I was only trying to help as you asked for suggestions. You were the one who actually came across as rude by saying you wouldn’t lower yourself (implying I had) so maybe you think before you write things? Your comment about lowering yourself sounded rude and snappy.
