What happens if I get ill/hospitalised?

To summarise, I'm a single parent of 6, ages 6 to 18. I'm widowed so no partner to call on and family not interested in helping (harsh but true). 18 year old has cancer (currently well and clear scans for a year, no current treatment). Had a panicky night imagining what would happen if I got ill with CV and had to go into hospital...Presumably friends couldn't help out due to infection risk? Confused

I think Social Services would get involved but they would see if a family member could take the children first. Try not to worry too much...

Like a PP said, social services would get involved with temporary accommodation if they couldn't find anybody in the family to take care of your children. Sorry that your family are so unhelpful. Try not to worry, it really is unlikely especially as you are going to be being very careful with your eldest's medical needs.

Same here it's a really scary time, i don't know what would happen Sad

Thank you SmileI know I'm probably panicking unnecessarily- a 2am 'what the fu*ck would happen if? ' scenario but a chance it could happen. I'm a social worker myself but it's a scenario that the teams I work with haven't really considered as outside our remit...
Hopefully would get a bit of warning before needing to get taken in so could put a shout out to friends! 😩
