Bereavement benefit?

Hi this is probably a stupid and shallow question but my daughters dad died a few years ago by suicide and I was just wondering if there was a bereavement benefit my daughter would be entitled to?

There is a bereavement benefit but I am not sure of the criteria. I have only known couples receiving it and it was straight after the other passed away not a few years later. Have you looked on the gov.uk website?

I get £350 per month for 18 months from the date he passed. So if it’s been years then you’ve missed the boat. We were also married so not sure of the criteria I’d you were separated. Just check the you.gov website.

To my knowledge it's for partners / spouses and can only be backdated by three months so no I don't think your child would get it.

Thank you. Bit of a cop out if I didn't know about it up until now but hey. I think there should be a benefit as kids are losing out but again it's the government.

@Climbmountains911 fwiw I agree with you. There should be a benefit for the children. I don't have experience of this like the ladies above. You could campaign for this- Gingerbread has a fab campaign toolkit. Might not help your DD but will help the kids this happens to in future. Also, I'm sure you've already done this, but make sure you have a good life insurance package. It's not something any of us really like thinking about but we all need to!

I've seen your other threads. Seems convenient that you're all of a sudden asking for this... 🧐

Prior to April 2017 you coukd claim a widowed parent's allowance until youngest child left full time education - you had to be married to deceased parent to qualify. About €112 per week.
Since April 2017 you receive £350 per month as widowed parent for 18 months. Again you had to be married.
