Holiday tomorrow - DS 4 croaky and wheezy

Panicking a bit - due to go on holiday tomorrow evening with DS4 and 7. 4 year old woken this morning very croaky and wheezy, with a slight barky cough. He’s suffered from croup before sounds like that. He is completely fine in himself atm.

I know I just have to wait and see until tomorrow but if he’s the same wondering what to do. I suffer from anxiety so this has really triggered me. Keep thinking if he gets worse on holiday it will be no fun.
It’s a pool type holiday abroad but my eldest can’t go in unaccompanied.

I’ve saved for ages for the holiday and the kids are really looking forward to it. However I find going away on my own with them a bit stressful anyway. I really don’t want to be away with a sick child. I’m also not 100% as just had wisdom tooth out.

Not sure what I’m asking really. I guess what would others do?

I do feel for you. My two have amazing habit of being sick when I have booked or planned something expensive.

Fingers crossed he wakes up ok today. If you are holidaying in the Uk you can always see a doctor wherever you are. Just as a visiting patient.

Hope you all go and have a lovely time

Can you see a doctor today?

They might give an inhaler or dexamethasone - either for him to have now or for you to take with you in case he needs it.

Get to a doctor today, either your own or a walk-in type place if yours can't see you. It's likely nothing that will stop the holiday from going ahead, but better for everyone to get him checked over.

Go to a walk in today. Suspected croup should be seen anyway. Dexamethasone (single dose) usually seeks kids through the worst of it.
DS (3) is also chesty and croaky at the moment- it started as a barking cough and I thought croup too, but he quickly settled to just phlegmy “rattly” (within a few hours)- he’s asthmatic so it’s a pain anyway as s have to up inhalers etc , but more manageable than croup!
Fingers crossed it’s just a cough and you get away tomorrow

Sorry, I've just realised it's Sunday! Walk-in it is then; hopefully you have them where you live.

Thanks all

Hi @eve34 it’s actually crumpets here Smile. Hope you are ok.

Unfortunately holiday is abroad - I’d be more relaxed if in uk. Also worried about the flight if he is blocked up. I’m also worried about my extracted tooth as in so much pain. Will try walk in today - he actually seems ok atm just the barking cough and wheezy. I think it’s because I know how these things usually go.

My other option is to delay flight to first thing Thursday morning. We’d still have 5 nights and I could just about afford it. Think I’d have to take the decision today as flights selling out though. Arrghh - don’t know if that would be the safer option?

@BigmouseLittlehouse

Hope You get to see doctor today an you can get on your holidays. So pleased to hear you are doing ok x

BigmouseLittlehouse · 28/07/2019 15:21

@eve34 hopefully you are also doing ok Eve.

Took DS to the doctors who proscribed an inhaler. Said he is ok to travel but will probably have the up all night cough ( which I know from experience is unpleasant).

Still in 2 minds what to do. I also feel really rubbish from my tooth extraction. Tempted to delay until Thursday on the basis we all should feel much better by then. But then wondering if Im just being a wimp! If I wasn’t travelling alone or was going to family I’d go for it.

Depends where you are going. Once there is it a chill out sort of holiday. And the effort will be worth it. If you feel to over whelmed then go with the Thursday flight x

BigmouseLittlehouse · 28/07/2019 18:50

Thanks @eve34. I do feel overwhelmed. I’m going to delay. Youngest very wheezy and with my tooth I just don’t feel up to dealing with both of them
