Hi just wondering if anybody has ever done a DNA test through CMS? My little girl is almost 4 and her bio dad has seen her once, he’s never paid a penny or anything. I have tried to get maintenance for around 2 years now but he has not paid a penny and not refusing parentage and wants a DNA test which is fine. Would just like to know everybody’s experience with this how long did this take? Etc.. lady on the phone said we should have the results back in a few months but I didn’t think it took that long.

everything with the cms takes a long time I’m afraid

Not sure if I'm right about this, but if he's proven to be her father through DNA testing, I think he automatically gets parental responsibility and can then be a pain in the arse if he deems fit, by denying permission for holidays, passports etc. I would look into it and, if that's true, personally I'd just leave it if I were financially able to do so.

Oh really! I will only be receiving £6.75 from him so may not be worth it then🤣 we are financially able without him and have always been it just really irritates me that he can pay for his other kids and not ours x

He only has parental responsibility if he is added to the birth certificate. A DNA test only confirms he is the father he doesn't have pr unless he applies through the courts.

The will start to run up a. Debt as such from
The moment you make a claim so he wil still have to back pay all the weeks your waiting for the results.

He will have to pay for the dna test himself so if he already knows he is the father there really is no point in denying it.

It doesn't give him parental rights it just proves he is the father

Had a bad case of fat fingers there. Fingers crossed you understand what I've said!

Following this up. I’ve just received a letter for dna. Did you do it. And what happened with parental rights etc I’ve never denied him as the father but he chose to walk out. Now his starting a fight year and half later his abusive to me and child with medical records on me. So I really want to keep my daughter protected for as long as possible. And no I can’t afford to do it with out his help even tho his not paying his in a arreas of £3k and building xx
