Temporary accommodation

Hello

I'm just wondering if you been in temporary accommodation how long did it take you to get a permanent property? I'm on emergency Band which is the highest band in my Borough. I've been in temporary accommodation for 4 months with my 16 months old daughter, although I'm very grateful for roof over our heads I'm very desperate to get out of here.

Every council will have different waiting times.

Hi alliebob, I'm only 3 weeks in, it's so hard. My child is the same age as yours. I have no idea how long we will be here but like pp said each area will have different waiting times...

It depends where you live as some areas are quicker than others. Have a look for local Facebook groups you could ask on as you will get a more accurate reply for your town. After my divorce I became homeless and penniless with 2 children and lived in 3 different temporary accommodations over the space of 18 months. For London that was incredibly quick. I have since bought my own house but I was grateful for the help and housing we got at the time. I know it feels like it drags but you will be in your new home soon enough. Good luck.

Thanks you everyone for your reply, I'm going to try seek some more information from the council on Monday as the situation is really affecting my mental health. Hopefully we get housed soon x

Your mh won't make a ounce of difference, you have a roof over your head and that's what matters.
Where are you based?
A friend was in a hostel for 4 months then a one bed for a year then finally got a two bed. Though the two bed is worse than the other two and in a crap area.
People in her hostel were moved after 2 weeks and another 8 months.
2 weeks went to private
8 months had to small dc and was heavily pregnant in one room.
