Single mothers have been to the puppet show and seen the strings, a real man wouldn't shop lift the pootie off a single mother....as quoted from jerry macguire (what on earth does that mean?)
They are discussing dating a single mum

I am watching this, never seen it before, quite interesting to know what men think of single mums. I have always had a sneaking suspicion men think we want marriage after a week and someone to bring up our kids. Also that we might be quite delicate and emotional, full of past pain.

I also haven't a clue, i know men are told this straight away, like some warning about me.

What do you think are image is?

I think that saying means something like men wouldnt have like a one night stand with a single mum because there would be too many strings attached and where the guy is probably just after sex, the woman is after a man to be her other half and father to her child. or at least thats what Ive been told. i was watching that last night too, love that film.

I think stereotypically we are thought of as what you said about wanting the whole committment thing, as we need security from being single for however long we've been on our own. I think most men are scared of single mums, as we tend to become a lot stronger on our own, and men dont like to be intimidated, or at least the men I know dont. Thats what I think anyway

I dunno what preconceptions men in general have. You're probably right in your suspicion FF. But a man who is put off by such preconceptions isn't really worth knowing is he?

God only knows what the jerry maguire saying is all about. The puppet thing is saying a single mother has lived enough to see through the games men play I suppose. And the pootie bit seems to mean that a real man would have the decency not to piss about with a single mother. I think.

so what is a pootie? (some kind of euphemism I'm guessing?)

FF, from the interpretations here what was said was not unflattering. It means you are a smart cookie who should be respected!

tammybear · 06/09/2004 19:45

a mate of mine says pootie is sex, not sure if thats right though

I'm not scared of single mums at all, and after becoming a single father about 8 years ago I imagined that if I ever got together with another woman, that's the way I'd be going. (although in fact that's not what happened). Looking around my friends, I wonder if what we need to do is decide who we want to have children with and then who we want to share our lives with, as it so often isn't the same person.
