How do you tell your 4 y/o you can't afford to send him to a club?

Hey,

So my oldest who's 4, goes to Spanish lessons, after school. He's been going since last September and he really enjoys it. Also he's half Hispanic, so it's important to me that he knows his family history, culture and all the languages included etc.. Anyway I've been struggling with money the last couple of months, I'm a single mum of 2 and I just got a job, which I haven't started yet. I can't afford his Spanish lessons this term, and it kills me that I can't provide that much for him! Sad I don't want to tell his teacher that I can't afford it, and most definitely don't want to tell my son. I hate seeing disappointment in him.. it's tough enough being a single mum trying to make ends meet, but I've never allowed my kids to see that struggle, and still don't intend to.

How do I tactfully tell him he won't be going to Spanish for a while.. without lying entirely 🤥 ??

Thank you xx

You could speak to the teacher. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Is it one of those clubs where you pay per term? Rather than week by week? If so you could arrange to pay weekly this term if that makes it easier.

Also, is dad on the scene at all? If so would he pay it this time?

I felt the same when my Ds was small . As he has grown I think it actually is a valuable lesson you don’t get everything you want .

What makes it so hard is the guilt you can afford it, rather than a choice.

I would speak to teacher, it will give you an open door in the future. Vague with dc, not happening for a while
